Frequently Asked Questions

Reel in all the information you need about Anglers Leaderboard™!

Anglers Leaderboard

  • ALB is the ultimate real-time angling platform designed for fishing enthusiasts of all levels. With or without an internet connection, you can measure your catches, identify fish species, compete with others, and join tournaments. The choice is yours—fish your way and see how you rank on the regional leaderboard, too.

    • The app is designed for everyone who enjoys fishing. Whether you prefer casual fishing or competitive angling —be it from the riverbank, shoreline, kayak, or your boat.

    • Tournaments are an obvious fit. ALB and Photomeasure reduce the work, make the tournament process transparent to organizers, and standardize measurements made by different anglers.

    • ALB enables beginners to log their own catches, those exploring the sport a bit more to use their own bump board and enter their catch data, or for the achievers they can automate catches and photos and get that line back in quickly!

    • ALB Achiever uses patent-pending technology called PhotoMeasure™ and SpotMapper™, which simplify and speed up how anglers record their catches and spots using internet technology.

    • It’s a real-time app that makes it easy for beginners to join friendly competitions without needing expensive gear or years of experience, and offer the chance to win impressive awards and prizes akin to those of seasoned pros.

    • Tournaments using Achiever with PhotoMeasure are simpler to manage, results are verified on the water with releases made in just seconds, with hero shots and podium slide shows to wrap up your event.

    • Anglers Leaderboard™ is an angling platform that ties your catches and photos to your spots, either manually or automatically. The Achiever subscription simplifies recording catch statistics and locations using our patent-pending PhotoMeasure board.

    • Anglers Leaderboard™ hosts annual competitions, called The ALB Championships. These championships are designed to do what Tournaments cannot: declare the angler of the year based on the net sum of your catches, and the Top Ten Angler of the Year: the angler with catches from their best 10 days on the water including diverse catches of species.

    • Your catches are automatically entered into weekly Top 20 that award points to your total ALB catch Score.

    • Each time you host a friendly competition you get bonus points for your regional leaderboard score!

  • All you need is subscription, if you are an achiever subscriber grab a PhotoMeasure board. You can measure catches and identify species automatically either on-line or off-line.

  • Many members don’t compete but instead want a simple way to keep a good record of your catches and photos. Other anglers that have fun competing, perhaps with your wife or friend, are often surprised about how fun friendly competitions can be! You can also connect with other avid anglers who enjoy adventure and competition by fishing the water you know well and so can they.

  • Yes. If you leave cell coverage or run a remote fishing camp and want to have your guests compete and let them “score up” once back to service or local wi-fi, no problem. All your catches and photos will upload when you are back online with one push of a button.

PhotoMeasure

  • NextGen Environmental Research Inc., the company behind ALB, specializes in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software application development, designed this patent-pending board with species identification and length measurement techniques. These are based on large photo samples which train specialized artificial intelligence models.

  • PhotoMeasure™ uses AI methods to measure the length of your fish. It transforms how you capture and record your catches. It is easier and faster than ever before. Perfect for professionals and casual anglers alike.

  • If you submit a photo of a species that is not in the database, simply provide the photo, with manual entry of species name and its length.  This will grow the database and assist in the automatic identification of this species in the future.

  • We post length measurement and species identification statistics on the ALB website.

  • The PhotoMeasure™ board has a built-in ruler for users who like traditional bump boards, and helps users develop a trust for automation. The ruler is there for you. PhotoMeasure™ does not use it.

  • The PhotoMeasure™ board uses a smart algorithm to fix any distortions. By following simple steps—like placing the camera directly over the center of the fish and keeping it horizontal in landscape mode—users can minimize distortion. If a photo is taken poorly, the system rejects the image and alerts the user for a retake.

  • Yes, our extensive trials and real-world beta testing has proven effective length measurement and species identification, providing reliable data that you can trust. Our tests conducted before the product was released showed measurements were highly precise, on average less than 3 mm or 1/16th of an inch. This is smaller than the increments shown on your existing bump board. The precision does not degrade on small or large fish.

Leaderboards

  • The Regional Leaderboard shows the top anglers in a specific region according to the scores applied towards the three ALB championships and your achievements while using the app. This leaderboard updates in real-time as users upload catches.

  • The Personal Leaderboard is a private feature where users can find all their catch records. Only the user can see their Personal Leaderboard.

  • To join the Regional Leaderboard, participate in the ALB Championships and fish anytime, anywhere using the PhotoMeasure™ board. Only Achiever subscribers who use this board participate, but Explorer subscribers can see what their Regional Leaderboard score would be if they upgraded to Achiever.

Competitions

  •  Any ALB subscriber can join an open competition. Closed competitions are for a specific group chosen by the host. This might be for work colleagues only, for example.

  • No, ALB allows competitive anglers to track their catches and stats on their own. You can fish alone. It’s fine to share your PhotoMeasure™ Board with others while fishing. Only catches for Achiever subscribers will be logged automatically.

  • The host plays an important role in managing the competition or Achiever tournament. They receive PhotoMeasure data and photos of each catch in real-time for accurate records.

If a photo needs clarification, or is under dispute, the host can reach out to participants while they are fishing.

The host also formally accepts the ranks and closes the competition.

A publication delay of the results can be used, for example, to get the anglers back on land or in the local venue/arena before revealing winners. The host shares the final results of the competition to keep everyone informed and engaged.

You can export your final results to your tournament website easily.

  • Yes. The host can see each participant's catches, including catch photos used with the measurements shown in real time, if they choose to.

  • No. competitions are monetary only using your credit card. Competitions range from $20 to $140 in $20 increments. The entry fee is set by the comp host.

  • One competition can be scheduled at a time.

Tournaments

  • The rules for joining an ALB competition or tournament vary by province or state. We have a wizard built in to help you know what you need to know.

For example, one state allows friendly competitions with up to 24 people. More participants than this would require a permit as it would be considered a formal tournament. You would be told this in the app.

Know your region's fishing rules before joining. Having said that we’ve not found a state or province that places regulation limits or prohibits a small group of friends or family having fun.

    Your normal fishing regulations apply.

  • No, the Tournaments’ format is entirely up to the host. However, it must fall within one ALB region.

  • No. Tournament organizers must demonstrate to us that they represent a recognized outdoor association with a history of activity and provide official documentation before they can post a tournament with us for the first time.

    Individuals cannot host Tournaments.

  • No, there is no fee for the host when ALB is used by all competitors. We earn a small revenue from each competitor.

  • Yes, all catches by participants, including catch photos shown in real time. Other information is available for purchase.

  • Yes, the tournament host can set the start time and duration of the blackout.

  • Of course. We will accommodate whatever your organization needs so your event is successful. This includes building new software elements for you should that be needed. Just ask.

If you need something we’ll talk on the phone or on a video call.

ALB Championships

  • While the platform hosts the ALB Championships exclusively, users host competitions, and recognized associations host Tournaments.

  • Users of the Anglers Leaderboard™ are automatically entered in the ALB Championships. Many members enjoy fishing, keeping a record, and find it fun to know their catch scores. Many do not compete, at least initially to build confidence, and that is part of why we created ALB.  Everyone is welcome.

  • Users are automatically invited to participate in the ALB Championships. However, you can choose the competition that best suits your fishing style and opt out of those that do not align with it.

    • There are three (3) different ALB Championships— the ALB Angler of the Year, ALB Top 10, and Weekly Top 20— each with a distinct set of scoring criteria.

    • The scores are evaluated and an independent panel are given access to review all catch records and photographs.

    • All potential winners catch data are subjected to scrutiny by independent people and algorithms. The panels decision is final.

  • These events follow the calendar year. Announcement of the winners happens in early January.
